Celebrating WIC Week 2023 by Saluting Our Partners

Women in Construction Week (“WIC Week”) celebrates and promotes the role of women in the construction industry.  Every day at Giroux Glass, we embody this year’s WIC Week theme, “Many Paths, One Mission.” We celebrate the many different paths the women of Giroux have taken to make our business successful.

Giroux Glass is 100% employee owned, with a team of employee owners that is comprised of over 42% women, and 55% minority workers. We wish that more companies could tout such percentages, and that is one of the goals of this week.  The industry average is that women comprise a mere 11% of the construction labor force, a number that has shown just a mere uptick in the past ten years.  With the focus of many companies raising awareness and working together industry wide, we hope to increase the number of women employed in construction, which would strengthen our industry overall.

WIC week 2023

There are a series of events around the country that honor and support the roles of women in our industry. NAWIC is the creator and sponsor of WIC Week, and celebrates its 25th anniversary of leading this event. In our markets, there are some exciting events happening this week. NAWIC Las Vegas has a Shop Tour and Mixer at MMC Contractors on March 6th. NAWIC Los Angeles and Orange County have several events, including: “Shaping Your Career Now For the Future” March 7th, and “Sharing Your Visions and Dreams” on March 8th and 9th.

Additional women’s organizations celebrate women who fill specific roles in the industry. Learn more about these organizations:

  • WiOPS — Women in Construction Operations is committed to the advancement of women in construction operation positions and mentoring of future women leaders in our industry.
  • AIA -Women in Architecture is actively engaged in furthering and supporting multiple initiatives and goals that value EDI for people of all backgrounds.
  • WiSE — Women in Structural Engineering which facilitates mentorship and leadership opportunities to enhance professional development and provide a forum to recognize the valuable contributions women and under- represented members, make in the engineering industry. 15.1% of all structures engineers are women.

It’s only fitting that WIC Week takes place on the week which includes International Women’s Day  This event, during Women’s History Month, creates support and collaboration that can lead to positive change in our professions well beyond this celebratory time. We hope to continue to move upward the bar which measures the increasing influence and impact of women in the industry. WIC Week is as wonderful an excuse as any to support the women in construction.
