The Lucky Dragon: Part I

The north Strip’s new Lucky Dragon Hotel and Casino broke ground in April 2015 as construction began on the $373 million, 9-story, 206-room boutique hotel and 19,000-square-foot casino project. The construction team, which includes Giroux Glass, is advancing on an aggressive schedule to be completed in time for a 2016 debut. It is just one of the Asian-themed projects, in addition to Resorts World Las Vegas, that will be soon to open on the Las Vegas Strip.

Lucky Dragon project owners, the Las Vegas Economic Impact Regional Center, have selected PENTA Building Group as the general contractor to organize efforts in fulfilling the stunning architectural visions of EV&A Architects (see more of their stunning renderings via the links below). Giroux Glass is, proudly, the local Las Vegas glass and glazing subcontractor on the job, installing the hundreds of rich, ruby-red panels that will composite the new building.

Now, nearly seven months after ground breaking, our work onsite is just beginning. During the last week of October, we had no substantial material onsite, aside from j-hooks on embeds. Just last week, curtain wall panels arrived pre-glazed from our curtain wall manufacturer in Wisconsin and window tinting was applied to the interior elevation to neutralize the red hue naturally cast by the red glass. November 3rd also marked a big day for us as our first glass panel was hung that day!

It will take approximately two weeks to install 106 panels on the first floor; but after that, a reasonable time frame for our union crews is roughly five working days to complete each of the remaining eight floors. At that rate, our estimated date of completion of the exterior tower is January 2016.

Since we were also awarded interior restaurant storefront and handrail work, as well as the curtain wall storefront for the Podium which features the same ruby-red glass to match the tower and compliment the glimmering gold glass throughout the building, our glasswork on Lucky Dragon is expected to be fully complete by around late summer 2016.

Until then… I look forward to sharing more step-by-step project insights with you on our blog. If you’ve gotten this far (thank you), I encourage you to check back for weekly updates on the goings on of our company. My partners and I take pride in sharing interesting, factual and accurate information, and highly value communication with you, our trade partners and friends!
