The Lucky Dragon: Part II

In case you didn’t get a chance to read the initial installment of our “Lucky Dragon” series of blog posts (you can view it here), Giroux Glass was the glazing contractor selected to install glass and curtain wall at the Las Vegas Strip’s new Lucky Dragon Hotel and Casino. The casino broke ground in April of this year, and has since progressed on an aggressive schedule, which Giroux Glass is estimated to accomplish by the beginning of 2016.

Since the day we hung our first curtain wall panel on November 3rd, our union crews have worked steadily to complete each elevation. After the first floor (which took two weeks to complete), each floor has been furnished with exterior glass at a rate of roughly five days per floor. We are now on the 4th level of this 8-floor tower — halfway there.

But before we got to this point, during the last week of October, I traveled to Merrill, Wisconsin, to visit the curtain wall solutions facilities at Graham Architectural Products, where they fabricate, glaze, and package their product; in this case, the casino’s magnificent, pre-glazed, ruby red curtain wall systems. I spent a day there working through open issues and snapping the photos shown below. They help give a visual of the process involved in fabricating over 800 panels that will be used on the project.

It is delightful to be able to share our perspective as a subcontractor on a project like this one. Check back for more Lucky Dragon insights in the upcoming weeks, and weekly for other blog post topics written by my Giroux Glass partners!
