Today, March 20th, heralds the first day of Spring, and a new event in Los Angeles has launched a wonderful way in which to usher it in. Giroux Glass participated in the first annual Tables That Bloom event, a fundraiser organized by Delta Gamma alumnae to support both LA’s Blind Children’s Center (90%) and the Delta Gamma Foundation (10%).  We are happy to support one of the oldest charities in Los Angeles, as the Blind Children’s Center, now in its 79th year of service, started just a few years before Giroux Glass itself.  “We feel that it’s not only important to give back to our community,  I can’t imagine a more worthy cause than this one, which has given so much to the children of L.A. for decades,” says Nataline.
Designers, chefs, florists, and vendors throughout the region were asked to decorate tables at which over 200 women were seated to attend the luncheon event held downtown at the historic California Club.  (Of interest to note: this prestigious club, established in 1887, only started allowing women members in the 1980’s.) Giroux Glass was invited to be a sponsor of the “Women in Construction” (“WIC”) table and also contributed to the construction-themed flower arrangements.

Representing Giroux Glass at the WIC table were Nataline Lomedico, ceo and president, and Anne-Merelie Murrell, chairman of the Board. The construction-appropriate tablescape designs were the inspiration of Denise Cooper, ceo and president, of Cooper Engineering, Inc. Nataline selected an assortment of various construction items, including a crane, a toolbox, and a metal HVAC system accessory to our local floral mart, and arranged to have them filled with the gorgeous flowers seen in the photos. In addition to the tools of the trade on the table, the chairs  also were decorated in safety vests, white hard hats, and napkins and chairs were tied with “Caution” tape.

Denise Cooper, who loves interior design, admitted that, “Yes, we may work in construction and infrastructures, but give us a chance to show our creativity with design, one of my own personal passions, and we can’t help but go crazy!”
Joining Denise, Nataline and Anne-Merelie at our WIC table also were Janeen Oliver, (Ready Mix), Mary McCormick, (MBI Media), Marian Selvaggio, (Atkinson, Anderson, Loya, Ruud and Romo), Elizabeth Torrez (United Rentals), Danette Beck (Marsh).
This event was actually a competition: the Tables That Bloom committee will present three awards to attendees’ favorite designs: The People’s Choice Award; Most Unique Table; and Best Expression of the Theme Spring into Design. After careful deliberation, our table was awarded First Place for “Most Unique!”
