How Sensory Illusions Can Affect Glass & Glazing

Sometimes we find in our trade, with glass and metal used in lots of different elevations and conditions, that identical lites of glass, curtain wall, storefront systems, panels, painted and anodized surfaces, etc. can appear to be different colors under certain lighting and from different vantage points. This is an example of “sensory illusions” at work. In some cases, the look created is perfectly intentional, like the Dolce & Gabbana storefront we constructed on the Las Vegas Strip for instance, which features varying sizes of black glass panels jetting out at various different angles. What’s happening with light and color perception may seem relatively straightforward–light reacting with an object and cone cells in the eye–but [...]

Our role in the remodeling of LAX has made it one of our largest and most complex projects to date. Looking back specifically on our work at LAX Terminal 2, we thought readers would appreciate an inside peek at some of the work that has been done in this area — you never know if one day, you’ll find yourself traveling from one of the twelve airlines that fly from there! The Aquarium of the Pacific Showcases World-Class Partnerships Formed with Giroux Glass

The Aquarium of the Pacific is the fourth most-attended aquarium in the nation. With over 11,000 animals (representing over 500 species) in more than 50 exhibits, it presents the diversity of the Pacific Ocean – from the temperate waters of Southern California and Baja; to the icy Northern Pacific off the coasts of Alaska, Russia, and Japan; to the warm tropical Pacific – like no other aquarium, anywhere. Three football fields could fit into its expansive, three-story, 353,685 square-feet facility, with exhibits ranging in size and capacity from about 5,000 to 350,000 gallons of water. In addition to these world-class [...]
