A Service Emergency at Fire Station #3

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Firemen, for many of us, are our biggest heroes. But no matter how brave and heroic they are, they, more than just about anyone, deserve a thoughtful, helping hand when in need.

In mid-April, Giroux’s Service Department received a call from building engineer Rod Terrell with an interesting request. The LA Fire Department needed to retrieve a piece of roofing that had been ripped off by high winds from the night before, and needed to remove a lite of glass to gain access to the roof. Initially, the firemen attempted to remove the window themselves, but to avoid making matters worse, they decided to call us. They requested that our Service team remove the 44” x 74” piece of glass from the 24th floor of the high rise building.

At the time, our glaziers and the rest of the Service Department, excluding myself and fellow team member Jim Sharp, were busy attending to other emergency calls and tasks, so Jim and I went “out of retirement for the day.” We met with Fire Marshall John Smith from Fire Station #3 in DTLA, who kindly took us to the scene where we picked up where the firemen left off attempting to remove the glass. I guess, for the irony of it, you can say we “saved the day,” but Jim and I were just glad we could help return the favor to our local heroes, who continue to valiantly serve our community.[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”387″ img_size=”400×550″ alignment=”center”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”388″ img_size=”400×550″ alignment=”center”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”389″ img_size=”400×550″ alignment=”center”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row]
