American Subcontractors Association

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]At Giroux Glass, we feel it’s important to keep in touch with not only all that is going on within our industry locally, but also to see and chat with other “subs” in our area. We feel that being members of American Subcontractors Association, (“ASA”), is a wonderful way to do just that. Headquartered in Alexandria, VA and established in 1966, ASA members include subcontractors, specialty trade contractors and a variety of suppliers. Our local Los Angeles/Orange County chapter, has since 1988, hosted monthly meetings at which guests are invited to speak and give presentations on current and relevant topics. Sometimes the speakers are general contractors, or knowledgeble authorities explaining changes or new regulations; at times they are potential service providers who explain how they can help subcontractors in their business – but what’s consistent at each is that they are always interesting, and the content is useful information for all of us.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Coming up on her 16th anniversary with ASA, executive director, Ruth Worden, is no stranger to construction. Prior to working for ASA, and for almost 20 years, Ruth managed her own subcontracting company that specialized in cabinets, countertops and millwork for hospitals and schools. Now Ruth is the organizing force behind networking-dinner meetings monthly, as well as other events throughout the year that include golfing events, awards nominations and ceremonies. Awards are based on nominations and votes for recognition that include best general contractor, best subcontractor, best project manager and estimator, and more. It’s always an honor to be considered for one of these coveted awards, as partners from Giroux Glass have been, on several occasions. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”949″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]This week’s networking dinner event featured speakers from general contractors Hensel Phelps, who are proudly celebrating their 80th anniversary, shared information about some of their upcoming projects. Our commercial project estimator and manager, Tom Molinaro has worked often with the Hensel Phelps team on multiple projects at LAX over the past decades, and he was one of five Giroux Glass folks to attend the event on March 14th.

In this photo to the right are (from left to right) Giroux Glass partners Tom Molinaro (estimator and project manager), Robert Burkhammer (vice president, business relations, Ruth Worden, (ASA executive director), Nataline Lomedico (chief executive officer and president), Anna Ryor (project estimator, working in Los Angeles for a short time but who is based in our Fresno office), and Bill Runyan (project estimator).

One of ASA’s goals is to promote professionalism, ethics, and education, and to give members the tools for business success. Yes, they do all that too — but they do it in a way that promotes camaraderie as well among all the various trades — and has each of us eagerly anticipating catching up with one another from one month to the next. Kudos to Ruth and to ASA![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
